I ordered these because my first grader is interested in all of these sports but still doesn't understand all the rules or know the terminology. They're just what I had hoped for with clear illustrations and explanations. They're hardcover with sewn bindings so they look nice too. I hope he likes them!
I hate to give a Bible less than five stars but this is not my favorite children's Bible. It tries to show how each Bible story points to Jesus, which is a nice idea. However, in my opinion, the author takes too much creative license. I'm also not a fan of the informal writing style but others might like it.
These are cute and funny stories that also offer some useful lessons. I think they're slightly harder than other I Can Read level 2 books so I told my daughter they were more like level 3 books and that made her feel better about reading them (she was eager to move up a level). She went from reading these to reading Nate the Great books.
It's an adorable boxed set of hardcover books with sewn bindings. The stories are charming and funny but the best part is... you can sing along! Carole King wrote songs for all of these books and you can find them on YouTube. Reading and singing along has been fun practice for my beginning reader :)
I think my kids enjoyed this even more than The Courage of Sarah Noble! It's great for reading aloud to young listeners and I'm sure my kids will pick it up again once they're able to read it themselves. I love the illustrations on the inside, I just wish it had the original cover design and came in hardcover (Sarah Noble too)!
"To be afraid and to be brave is the best courage of all." This is a great read-aloud for young listeners. My kids were super engaged and seemed inspired by Sarah's courage. I expect my daughter will want to read it again by herself later.
This volume is slightly thinner than Who Would Win?: Ultimate Showdown but looks just as fun. I'm sure my son will be excited to read about new match ups and fights. These books aren't going to win any caldecott or newberry medals but my son is learning about animals and having fun! :)
I was first introduced to Chris Van Dusen through his book The Circus Ship. This is another fun rhyming picture book with whimsical illustrations. I found it was a great discussion starter with my kids: What is your favorite part of the car? What kind of car would you build?
I bought this to introduce my kids to one of the most famous American tall tales. It's a fun story with great illustrations, however, I realized that a story about a hero who chops down trees reads a little bit awkward in 2023 when people are so environmentally conscious.
I bought this because I wanted to introduce my kids to the story of jack and the beanstalk. At first I thought the illustrations would give my five year old son nightmares but he loved them! I appreciate that the author stayed true to the original language: "Fee-fi-fo-fum!"
This is a charming book that gives lots of interesting details about farm animals and farm life throughout the year. I even learned some new things! It's broken down by months so my kids especially enjoy the pages about their birthday months. Cute illustrations!
I haven't read this one with my kids yet but I got it because we've enjoyed reading the Grimms, Anderson, and Aesop books in the same series. We also have the Korean book 그리스 로마 신화:한 권으로 읽는 신화 이야기 32편 but this book seems to have a lot of stories that are not in that one, like the Trojan War. Looking forward to reading!
These are larger than most paperbacks with beautiful color illustrations making them perfect for reading aloud. However, my favorite thing about them is that they have thick paper and sewn bindings! Amazing quality for the price.
To my adult eyes the book design is not the best BUT it's a great value (five books in one) and my son LOVES this book. I got it because he was always asking me the very same question "Who would win?" about various animal and dinosaur match ups. These authors understand little boys!
This is a beautiful, heirloom quality treasury of all the original Curious George books. I like it because, unlike some treasuries, they haven't changed the page layouts. It has a sewn binding and ribbon bookmark. But most importantly George makes both of my kids laugh out loud!
This was the first chapter book I read aloud that held my son's interest (he was four at the time) and it's still the only chapter book he's asked me to read to him a second time. It's heavily illustrated with short chapters that are easy for young listeners to follow. Highly recommend!
My daughter loves all the Kevin Henkes mouse books so she was very excited to receive these four readers and be able to read them herself! She was more motivated to read them than any other I Can Read Level 1 books. Worth every penny!
